Last week, I decided that I deserve a manicure....pink nail polish, gel tips... the works! This is the fourth time in my life that I have taken the plunge and attempted to look...girly. I committed to a month of finger-claws because I am/was tired of having the hands of a middle-aged peasant woman. I am just too busy 'getting stuff done' to fuss over dry skin and sewing calluses on my hands, and NAILS help you fake the look like you don't have anything better to do than sit around looking beautiful and being rich.
My last manicure was over the summer, and when I came home from my long vacation, I jumped in to 8-15 hours a day of sewing. I was getting my long arm set up and running, fighting with the tension and the worn out hooks and the missing back-spring in the bobbin case. And when I was between visits from Jerry, the AWESOME gammill technician, I was piecing tops like crazy....So, I thought, "Hey! I had nails and did a LOT of sewing this fall. I can do that again!"
Whoops. Since getting my nails done two weeks ago, my life has exploded into hand sewing.
When I bribed my way into the guild meeting on Tuesday, the activity was hand piecing 4 patch blocks. Do you know how hard it is to prove that you have been sewing for 31 years and quilting for 25 when you have claws on your finger tips and can barely hold a needle!?!! (Laugh for me, please....it was pretty absurd)
At home, I have been gearing up for a crazy weekend....Going to the Lancaster Quilt show on Saturday and coming home by way of a birthday party....where I need a present for a one year old. So, I spent all day yesterday (and will spend time today,as well) whipping up Jinny Beyer puzzle balls from scraps, and stuffed with batting trimmings and tiny fabric scraps. Yay, more hand sewing that would NORMALLY be fun...
The great thing about hand sewing...My favorite helper doesn't think that it counts, and so she is still waiting for me to go to the sewing room....poor, neglected cat...
